Mary Heald Madden

Graveside services for Mary Elizabeth Heald Madden will be at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Rusk on Wednesday, January 27, 2016 at 11 a.m. under the direction of Wallace-Thompson Funeral Home, officiated by Pastor Wade Coleman. She passed away at the home of her only child, David, on Friday, January 22, 2016 in Bryan, Texas, at the age of 86. Mary was born in Abilene, Texas on August 20, 1929. She moved to Rusk, Texas when she was 7 years old and resided there during her school years. She was a graduate of Rusk High School, class of 1946. She met the love of her life, Frank Madden, in high school and they were married shortly after they both graduated from North Texas University. They shared a wonderful 53 years together. She taught home economics and second grade for twenty years. She and Frank lived in Houston, Texas, Evansville, Indiana, and Johannesburg, South Africa while Frank was manager of various departments of Reed Roller Bit. After their retirement, they moved back to Rusk and resided in the old home place where she grew up. She was active in Rusk United Methodist Church, Rusk High School Alumni Association, Beta Sigma Phi, Main Street Organization, Rusk Chamber of Commerce, Fair on the Square and anything else where Rusk needed a volunteer. Mary lived in Bryan with her son and family for the past eight years. Mary is preceded in death by her husband Frank Halbert Madden, and her parents Metz and Vivian Heald. She is survived by her son David Madden and wife Linda, brother Charles Metz Heald and wife Carolyn, sister-in-law Sue Smith and husband Robert of Kansas, grandchildren Lynsey Koenning, Amber Madden, and Jamie Madden together with 5 great grandchildren, as well as niece Debe Wentworth and family, nephew Stephen Smith and family, and niece Susan Rapp and family. Pallbearers will be David Madden, Jamie Madden, Chris Koenning, Heath Neidig, Jerry Bozeman, and Clay Bozeman. Honorary Pallbearers will be Charles Heald, Don Jenkins, Benny Jenkins, and Wylie Jenkins. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 26, 2016 from 6-8 p.m. at Wallace-Thompson Funeral Home, Rusk, TX and In lieu of flowers, a donation could be made to Hospice Brazos Valley, 502 W. 26th St., Bryan, TX 77803.
