Funeral services for Mary Jane Phillipps DeFoor, age 89, of Rusk are scheduled for 10:00 a.m., Friday, July 15, 2011 in Mt. Hope Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Don Copeland and Rev. Jack White officiating. Interment will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery under the direction of Wallace-Thompson Funeral Home in Rusk. Mrs. DeFoor died on Tuesday, July 12, 2011 at ETMC in Jacksonville after a lengthy illness. She was born December 12, 1921 in Cherokee County to the late Robert Wade and Amanda Lucinda Mae Sickenberger Phillipps. She lived in Cherokee County for 89 years. Mrs. DeFoor was retired from Rusk State Hospital where she was employed for 32 years as a Nurse Technician. She was a member of Mt. Hope Missionary Baptist Church, member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Rusk-Alto Chapter #79 where she was a past Worthy-Matron, a member of the Sharon Temple, Daughter’s of the Nile in Tyler, TX and a member of the VFW Auxiliary Post #2012 in Abilene, TX Preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Amanda Phillipps, husband, Ecta DeFoor, infant daughter, Mary Evelyn DeFoor, son, Jerry Don DeFoor. Mrs. DeFoor is survived by a daughter-in-law, Nancy DeFoor of Palestine, TX grandchildren, Douglas and Theresa DeFoor of Tennessee, Colony, TX, Donna and Lee Evans of Palestine, Kenneth DeFoor of Rusk and Kristy and Bill Allen Neches, TX, great grandchildren, Jerry and Jenni DeFoor of Tennessee Colony, Sarah Warden of Tyler, Kristen Evans of Tyler, Robert DeFoor of Palestine, Loren Allen of Corsicana, TX, James Matthew Warden of Tyler, great great granddaughters, Dakota Renee DeFoor and Natalie Jones of Tennessee Colony, sisters-in-law, Gayle DeFoor of Rusk and Joyce DeFoor of Kerrville, TX, brother-in-law, Jack Patterson of Jones Creek, numerous nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will include Douglas DeFoor, Lee Evans, Cody Fox, Brian DeFoor, Albert Nolley, Jerry DeFoor, Robert DeFoor and James Matthew Warden. Honorary pallbearers will be Jimmy DeFoor, Bill Allen, Thomas Warden, Jim Jones, Robert Mach and Jody Quimby. Family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Thursday, July 14, 2011 at the funeral home.
