Marie Mehner Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Funeral services for Kathryn Marie Mehner, age 90, of Rusk are scheduled for 3:00 p.m., Thursday, December 1, 2011 in Wallace-Thompson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Don Copeland officiating. Graveside services will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery with Rev. Charles Lightle officiating under the direction of Wallace-Thompson Funeral Home in Rusk. Mrs. Mehner died November 27, 2011 in a Rusk Nursing Home. She was born November 30, 1920 in Rusk to the late Jimmie Cyril and Kathryn Ford Turney. Mrs. Mehner lived most of her life in Rusk and owned and operated Marie’s Unique Boutique for 40 years. She also owned and operated Mehner Realty Company. Both businesses were located on the square in Rusk, TX. She became a member of Beta Sigma Phi in 1952 in Jacksonville, TX. In April of 1953, friendly ventured the first Beta Sigma Phi Chapter in Rusk, TX. In 1977, obtained life membership. She also received the Order of the Rose which in the highest degree earned and in April of 2002, was awarded the Golden Circle Pin for 50 years continuous service. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Rusk, Rusk Chamber of Commerce, The Cherokee County Historical Society and The Daughters of the Republic of Texas. Preceded in death by husband, Carl Hartt Mehner, son, Jim Mehner and brother James Turney. Survivors include daughter, Sally Suzann McCarty, granddaughter, Katie McCarty-Burns and husband Kevin Burns. Family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, November 30, 2011 at the funeral home.
