Dorothy L. Hassell

December 16, 1924 - July 5, 2016

HASSELL, Dorothy Lenora was born December 16, 1924 in Rusk, Texas, Bulah Community, to John Wesley and Leona (Hugghins) Hassell and passed from this life on July 5, 2016. She was raised in Bulah, living on the farm with her Daddy until he passed. She then took turns living with her siblings, being that very special aunt to each and every niece and nephew. Her absolute and unconditional love is her greatest gift and legacy to her family. Dorothy loved her boys; the Texas Rangers and Dallas Cowboys, especially Nolan Ryan and Tom Landry. She was a baker extraordinaire of cookies and pound cakes and famous for her popcorn balls. Her homemade rolls were known far and wide. Dorothy canned everything that was grown on the farm or by her sisters and a family gathering was never complete without her potato salad. She had shelled so many peas and pecans in her time that when she turned 88 she declared “No, No, and I mean no” to ever doing any shelling of any kind again. She will forever be remembered by the phrases she coined that are now family favorites. Dorothy was a member of Adams Chapel Methodist Church in the Bulah Community of East Texas. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Myra Rawlinson; her sister Leona Frances Jorgenson & husband Dewayne. Dorothy is survived by her sister Bettie Sue Miller & husband Royce; brother, John Herbert Hassell & wife Retha; brother-in-law Joe Rawlinson; her nieces Karen Egan; Suzanne Haffey & David; Diana Gayle May & Laura; Jennifer Ring & Jack; Patricia Burnett & Ric; Amy Hill & Randall; and nephews Chip Rawlinson & Jennifer; Bruce Brashier & Sherrise; David Brashier & Robin; Kirk Hassell; Tim Hassell; Matt Hassell and her many beloved great-nieces and great-nephews. Her Celebration of Life will be on Saturday at noon in Adams Chapel Methodist Church, Bulah Community of East Texas. The burial will immediately follow at Hendrick Cemetery.
