Michael Chapman

Funeral services for Michael David Chapman, age 67, of Longview formerly of Rusk, are scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Thursday, August 30, 2012 in First Presbyterian Church in Rusk with Rev. Gene Kendrick and Bro. Jim Crump officiating. Interment will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery under the direction of Wallace-Thompson Funeral Home in Rusk. Mr. Chapman died August 27, 2012 in a Tyler Hospital. He was born September 17, 1944 in Fort Worth, TX to the late Gerald and Eunice Wester Chapman. Mr. Chapman graduated from Rusk and attended Sam Houston State University, University of Houston, and other Texas universities, majoring in music, architecture, and engineering. Early in his career, he worked in commercial and residential design and construction and eventually entered the oil field industry in the early 1970’s as a structural and systems designer. In 1984, he enrolled full-time in Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary’s post-graduate program to study Biblical Theology, graduating in 1986. Michael nurtured his interest in the Bible by writing various works, and continued to work in his chosen field as a professional. Preceded in death by a granddaughter, Nadia Muckleroy. Survivors include his wife of 48 years and friend of 60 years, Anita Shuptrine Chapman of Longview, son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Laura Chapman of New Braunfels, TX, daughter and son-in-law, Shirel and Steven McCauley of Longview, daughter and son-in-law, Michelle and Russell Muckleroy of White Oak, TX, daughter and son-in-law, Elisabeth and Erik Schaal of Tyler, fourteen grandchildren, Matthew, James, Nicole, Jason, Andrew, Michael, Erik, Emilee and one on the way, Ryan, Kourtney, Devin, Adrian and Carolina, brother, Jerry Chapman of Denver, Colorado, numerous nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will include, Mark Seale, David Grogan, Phillip Power, Ronnie Travis, Lester Hughes and Chuck Swift. An honorary pallbearer will be Dennis Dotson. Family will receive friends from 12:00 noon up until service time, Thursday, August 30, 2012 at First Presbyterian Church in Rusk. If desired, memorials may be made to a fund or charity of choice.
