Kellie Powers

A funeral service for Kellie Powers, age 62, of Jacksonville is scheduled for 3:00 p.m., Sunday, September 8, 2019 at Harmony Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Brad Turlington officiating. Burial will follow at Shiloh Cemetery. Kellie was born July 1, 1957 in Seattle, WA and went to Heaven on September 6, 2019 in Tyler, TX. She was a resident of Jacksonville for 20 years and a graduate of Rusk High School class of 1975. She also graduated with Bachelor’s degrees from Texas Tech University in 1981 and from Stephen F. Austin State University in 1991. Even with both of those degrees, she chose to spend most of her professional life alongside her husband of 43 years, Steve Powers. You would often find them working cows, cutting hay and riding around town in an old dirty farm truck. They teamed up yet again as petroleum land men and worked closely with one another traveling to different Texas courthouses and working side by side in their home office. She was also known by a few special people as Nonnie. She found great Joy in attending softball games, hosting swimming birthday parties at her house and spending way too much money on Christmas gifts for her grand babies. She taught her children to never ever give up on anything they committed to, always stand up for yourself and to be courageous no matter what. She loved deeply, she was a fighter, she was absolutely fearless and if you ask any of her former students she was a little bit scary. She was met in Heaven with open arms by her granddaughter, Zoe Powers. She will be missed by her husband, Steve Powers of Jacksonville, son and daughter-in-law, Zach and Mandy Powers of Rusk, daughter and son-in-law, Karlie and Brian Carter of Tyler, grandchildren, Lexie and Kylee Powers, Ellarie and Layten Carter and soon to be grandson, Powers Carter, mother, Mary Gordon of Rusk, father and step-mother, Pete and Sue Lenes of League City, TX, brother, Jeff Lenes of Rusk and numerous nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will include Cary King, Carl Moceo, Doug Carter, John Killion, Ryan Griffith and Landry Smith. Honorary Pallbearers include Mike Stanley, Kent Stanley, Kenny Robinson, Corey Powers, Brandt Reagan, Bobby Evans, Robert Stewart and Mike Caudle. Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. to service time, Sunday, September 8, 2019 at Harmony Missionary Baptist Church.
