Katherine Stence Lindsay

Katherine Stence Lindsay, 94 of San Antonio, Texas went to be with the Lord on December 21, 2015, following a brief illness. Katherine was a long time resident of Rusk, Texas and resided in Tyler from 2002 through 2008 and later returned to San Antonio. She was born November 13, 1921 in Healdton, Oklahoma to Elma Helen McCarley Stence and Jesse Ray Stence. She graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School and finished Business College in 1941, in San Antonio. Following the outbreak of World War II, she traveled to Toronto, Ontario, Canada, and on November 15, 1941 she married her sweetheart, Gaylord C. Lindsay, Jr. who had enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force prior to the United States entering the war. Katherine and her husband established their home in Rusk, Texas in 1951 and there, raised their four children. She was the Business Manager for the Rusk Independent School District Tax Office for 20 years. She had many dear friends in the community. Active in the Rusk Library Study Club, she served as President and Secretary for periods of two years. She was also a member of the Rusk Garden Club, the Rusk Good Samaritans and the Cherokee County Heritage Society. She was a Charter Member of the First Congregational Methodist Church of Rusk and later a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church in San Antonio. Katherine was a loving wife, sister, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and aunt. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gaylord C. Lindsay, Jr., 1983 and her sister Dorothy Jo Stence Rose, Cincinnati, Ohio, 2003. She is survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Jesse W. and Kathleen Stence of Leander, TX; daughters and sons-in-law, Kathie L. and David S. Knight of Shreveport, LA; Holly L. and Gregory Tatsch of Fredericksburg, TX; sons and daughters-in-law, Gaylord C. and Connie C. Lindsay of Boerne, TX and David R. and Cindy F. Lindsay of Fort Worth, TX; granddaughters Cambrey L. Baccus and husband Bryan of Houston, TX; Ellen T. Fowler and husband Dwayne of Fredericksburg, TX; grandsons David S. Knight, Jr. and Steven M. Knight and wife Tina of Shreveport, LA; Ryan R. Tatsch and wife Sara of Lancaster, CA; great-granddaughters Brittany K. Welch and husband Josh and Kaylee Knight of Shreveport, LA; Lola R. Baccus of Houston, TX; Kelsey E. Fowler of New Braunfels, TX; Mila K. Fowler of Fredericksburg, TX; great-grandsons Minoa C. Baccus of Houston, TX; Jakob M. Tatsch and Evan J. Tatsch of Lancaster, CA; Dalton D. Fowler of College Station, TX. She is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. A graveside memorial service will be held at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Rusk, TX on February 6 at 1:00 pm with Brother Ray Robbins officiating. Katherine is eternally loved by her circle of friends and family and she will be missed but also cherished in the memories she leaves with all who knew her. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the First Congregational Church of Rusk, TX or to your charity of choice, to honor the wishes of their mother.
